How to get to Casa del Garbo

ZTL - Restricted Traffic Zone in Florence

The entire historic center of Florence (generally speaking the part located within the 19th century ring-roads which is a protected "UNESCO Heritage Site") is a "zona a traffico limitato (ZTL)" or restricted traffic zone. Special rules govern access to, as well as transit and parking in this zone.

Non-residents are prohibited from driving and parking within the ZTL at the following times:
on weekdays (Mondays through Fridays): from 7.30 a.m. to 7.30 p.m.
on Saturdays: from 7,30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The boundaries of the ZTL are marked by special road signs and have a series of "access points" which are controlled by cameras that automatically detect the number plates of all the vehicles passing through. Transit through some of the "access points" (those reserved exclusively for public transport and emergency vehicles), is prohibited at all times, 24/7: ( Via de' Benci — Via Panzani — Via della Mattonaia — Via XXVII Aprile — Via La Marmora — Via Senese — Via della Scala — Zona Stazione Santa Maria Novella ).

From the garage, you will be personally accompanied to our doorstep, with your own car, in Piazza della Signoria. To be able to do this you must carry with you a printed copy of the confirmation of your reservation.

To make your stay a little easier, if you are coming by car we suggest that you park your car in a public parking lot on the outskirts of the historic center and come to us by taxi. Otherwisewe can offer you 2 solutions for private parking garages.

  • coming from Firenze North:
    follow Viale Guidoni - Viale Redi — Viale Belfiore — Viale Strozzi - Viali di circonvallazione (Viale Lavagnini — Piazza della Liberta — Viale Matteotti — Piazzale Donatello — Viale Gramsci — Piazza Beccaria — Viale della Giovane Italia ) to arrive at the Lungarno della Zecca Vecchia and go towards "Centro — Ponte Vecchio". Once you arrive at the National Library in Piazza dei Cavalleggeri, take Corso dei Tintori, and turn right onto Via dei Benci. Continue ahead for about 150 meters then turn left onto Via dell'Oriuolo, left again onto Via del Proconsolo, take the 3rd street Via Ghibellina, and you find Garage Il Bargello at number 170r.
  • coming from Firenze South:
    follow the streets along the Arno river, known as the Lungarni (Lungarno Aldo Moro — Lungarno Colombo — Lungarno del Tempio — Lungarni Pecori Giraldi )
    Once you get to Lungarno della Zecca Vecchia, go towards "Centro — Ponte Vecchio" and the National Library in Piazza dei Cavalleggeri. Take Corso dei Tintori and turn right at Via dei Benci. Continue ahead for about 150 meters then turn left onto Via dell'Oriuolo, left again onto Via del Proconsolo, take the 3rd street Via Ghibellina, and you find Garage Il Bargello at number 170r.

If instead you prefer to use a "shuttle service" that brings you right to our doorstep, you can park at the Royal Parking garage on via Circondaria, 51r Telephone 055 321 33.
You will need to exit at Firenze Nord (north Florence) and follow the map below. We suggest that you download, print the map and bring it with you even if you have a GPS in your car.

we recommend taking a taxi, otherwise we can organize a private transfer with a multilingual driver.

To get to Casa del Garbo from the Santa Maria Novella train station:

we recommend taking a taxi or otherwise on foot follow Via Panzani - Via dei Cerretani - piazza Duomo - via dei Calzaiuoli.
